About
What this is, how it works, and how we make money.
Most households are one disruption away from improvising.
Not a dramatic one. A week of supply problems. A cold snap with an energy price spike. A regional outage that lasts three days rather than three hours. None of these are unlikely, and none of them require anything to collapse.
Most people know this. Very few do anything, and the reason is not indifference — it is that the available advice is useless to them. It is either aimed at people with a cabin and a decade of preparation, or it is a generic list that ignores whether you live in a city apartment with two children and no storage, or a house with a garden and a wood stove. Neither tells you what your household actually needs, or what it costs.
The gap Plan-B closes
Ten minutes of questions about your household — its size, where you live, what you already have, what you can spend. From that we build a profile across twelve categories: water, food reserves, energy, heating, medical, sanitation, communications, documents, payment resilience, transport, home security, and the people around you.
What comes back is not a shopping list. It is an assessment of where your household is genuinely exposed, ranked by what would fail first, with specific products and real prices attached — sized to your household and your budget rather than to an ideal one.
How we think about this
Preparedness is a question of economics, not temperament. It is the same logic as an insurance excess or three months of savings: a known cost now against an uncertain cost later. We treat it that way. There is no scenario planning for events we cannot forecast, no urgency we do not believe in, and no interest in frightening anyone into buying something.
The test we apply to every recommendation is whether a sceptical person would still consider it reasonable in a year when nothing has happened.
How we make money
Two ways, and we would rather tell you than have you work it out. The assessment is free. A detailed household plan is available as a paid product. And when you buy a recommended item through our link, the retailer pays us a commission — at no additional cost to you.
The obvious risk in that model is recommending whatever pays best. So: recommendations are chosen before commercial terms are considered, categories where we earn nothing are given the same weight as categories where we earn well, and where the right answer is “you already have this, buy nothing”, that is what the assessment says.

What this is not
We are not a survivalist site. We do not sell fear, we do not forecast catastrophes, and we have no view on politics. We think household resilience is ordinary, sensible household economics that has been badly served by the people who usually talk about it.
